Soy candles are the environmentalists best friend. These candles offer many benefits including: limited pollution, economic help to farmers, biodegradability, and price.
First of all, according to the National Candle Association, candles are burned in 7 out of 10 households and both men and women consider them a great gift. This should be reason enough to consider a candle for the next gift.
Most candles sold today are made out of paraffin wax which is a petroleum based product. The wax is a by-product of the refining of the same kind of oil you use in your car. The smoke generated from paraffin candles is often black in color and contains many pollutants and even known carcinogens. This pollutants, while minimal compared to the weight and volume of the candle do add up over time and can affect your body. Most candles are not burned in areas that are well ventilated, thus creating an even greater issue.
Soy candles are ecofriendly and made from renewable resources. Soy candles support small farmers and also last longer than paraffin candles. Also, the wax created by soy candles can be wiped up with merely water. Paraffin candles are know for staining various fabrics, including upholstery or carpeting.
Soy candles are traditionally more jelly like than a paraffin candle. But with some advancements made in the production of soy candles, it can be expected that a soy candle will look much like a paraffin wax candle. Soy candles are a relatively inexpensive gift idea and help support ecofriendly business practices. Further, giving a soy candle as a gift is a great way to spread the environmentalist message to your friends and family. Consider soy candles as a gift, or even a treat for your own home.
