Green tea’s benefits go a long way. Green tea has been proven by many studies to help in preventing and in some cases partially curing certain diseases and medical conditions such as cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function. Its cleansing properties help remove toxins from the liver as well. What makes green tea so powerful is the powerful anti-oxidant epigallocatechin gallate, better known as just EGCG. EGCG is known for killing radical cells such as cancerous cells without harming the healthy body cells. It also prevents blood clots and has been effective in lowering cholesterol levels. Lower cholesterol and better blood flow is often a simple way to avoid heart attack. Although not heavily advertised, green tea is a great way to lose a couple pounds. Green tea is known for increasing metabolism helping people shedweight. Further, green tea has no caloric value so it’s a great substitute for sugary, high calorie sodas and sports drinks. Due to the patent system in the United States, naturally occurring things like Green tea are not profitable as other “weight loss” drugs and the green tea supplement market is ruined. Green tea also has a great taste. It is best when mixed with meals that are highly spiced or have a strong flavor. I like to couple it with Asian foods as a good way to cleanse the pallet and a healthy alternative to other drinks. I recommend you to try green tea if you haven’t yet. Its somewhat bitter taste may not be initially appealing, but it is a flavor that you will quickly grow accustomed to. If you don’t like the natural taste, there are many naturally flavored green teas on the market. Mango, berry, and other flavors are popular choices.
